In this episode, I chat with UFC veteran Leah Letson. We discuss her involvement in the world of mixed martial arts and the UFC.

While Leah is a professional athlete that does not mean she was optimally healthy. We might think that being a professional athlete would mean you are healthy, but what we often see is that professional athletes are often some of the most unhealthy people trapped inside a fit appearing physique.

In this episode we discuss:

  • How Leah got involved in fighting and mixed martial arts
  • The health struggles she was struggling with that forced her to temporarily step away from the UFC
  • The struggle to get her doctors and coaches to believe she was struggling with her health
  • The health challenges we eventually uncovered
  • The work it took to get her health back and be able to fight again
  • more ...

In this episode of the Thyroid Answers Podcast, Kelly and I discuss the hormone Leptin and its tie to thyroid physiology and body fat.

As with most things in the human body, Leptin is not good or bad. Leptin is critical for optimal physiology. But, when Leptin is too low, or too high, or Leptin signaling is disturbed, the result is often constant hunger, increased fat accumulation, obesity, and a host of related disorders.

We do a deep dive to discuss:

  • What leptin is
  • How leptin works when we are healthy
  • How optimal leptin physiology improves thyroid physiology and metabolism
  • How disturbed leptin signaling contributes to hunger, weight gain, and hypothyroidism
  • How cellular hypothyroidism impacts leptin production and leptin signaling
  • More ...

  • What are anti-parietal cell antibodies (APCA)
  • Role of parietal cells in the Stomach
  • The connection between parietal cells, APCA, and B12 status
  • The connection between B12, APCA, and thyroid physiology
  • Evaluating B12 status
  • What is CIRS
  • What causes CIRS
  • The connection between CIRS, the CDR, and thyroid physiology
  • and so much more ...

Dr. Miles Nichols is a functional medicine doctor specializing in Lyme, mold illness, gut, thyroid, and autoimmunity. After Dr. Miles personally struggled with chronic fatigue in his early 20’s, Dr. Miles dedicated himself to figuring out the root causes. • An explanation of health
  • Where toxins come from
  • How environmental toxins impact your thyroid physiology and health
  • How toxins trigger the Cell Danger Response
  • How to reduce your toxic burden
  • and so much more

Dr. Gonzalez completed a two-year residency position at the competitive Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In this episode, I have a great conversation with Rebekah Stump discussing thermography.

We cover:

  • What thermography is
  • The benefit of thermography
  • The pros and cons of thermography
  • Why it may be a much safer form of breast and other tissue assessment vs radiation
  • and much more

I think it is a bit crazy that we traumatize a woman's breast tissue on a regular basis to try and identify signs of breast cancer. Just the damage of squashing the tissue and radiating it puts a woman at greater risk of developing breast cancer. There must be a better way! And, that is what this conversation is all about.

Rebekah Stump is the owner of Thermography of Houston - a clinic providing thermography and ultrasound screenings, as well as functional health coaching in Houston, TX. She completed her training as a clinical thermographer in 2009 at the American College of Clinical Thermology and completed further certification as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner in 2020. Her first interest in natural medicine began when she worked for her mother, a naturopath, and nutritional consultant, and saw firsthand the body’s amazing ability to recover and thrive when supported naturally. Her clinic provides screenings at 10 different locations around the Houston area, as well as in West Texas and New Mexico.

In this episode of the Thyroid Answers Podcast, I am joined by Dr. Kelly Halderman and Madeleine Lowry to discuss emotional stress, the cell danger response, and the Map Method.

Madeleine is a certified Map Method Practitioner. The MAP Method is an advanced neural retraining method that works directly with the subconscious mind.

The MAP Method is a technique used by trained practitioners to essentially change how your brain responds to experiences and your environment.

There are many things that cause our bodies to be in a danger response. Some of them we are aware of and some of them we are not. A MAP practitioner may be able to help you address these mental blocks that are causing a chronic danger response, driving hypothyroidism, and preventing you from getting well.

In this episode we discuss:

  • What the MAP Method is and how it differs from other techniques
  • How the MAP Method works
  • Who might benefit from this technique
  • and more...

Madeleine Lowry NTP, CMMP - Nutritional Therapy & MAP Method Practitioner is a certified Nutritional Therapy and MAP Method Practitioner specializing in allergies and sensitivities, digestive issues, and autoimmunity for clients of all ages. Over time, her experience with working with the brain and witnessing the improvements in chronic health issues led her to incorporate self-directed neural retraining methods in her practice. When these methods were not enough, she trained in the MAP Method, a more powerful method of retraining the brain, which enables faster results for many health issues including chronic fatigue, chronic pain, insomnia, skin issues, infertility, and eating disorders.

Probiotics are one of the things that everyone thinks they need, yet very few people really understand what they are, and how they work.

In this episode, I speak with Jeff Thurston co-owner of Master Supplements and US Enzymes. We discuss the basics of probiotics that everyone should know and understand.

We cover topics like:

  • What a probiotic actually is
  • The difference between prebiotics and probiotics
  • What someone should look for when considering a probiotic
  • What probiotics do
  • Does everyone need to take a probiotic
  • And more ...

Jeff is the co-owner of Master Supplements and US Enzymes. He has a degree in biology and chemistry.  he began his career as a virologist under a government security clearance working with extremely virulent pathogens. As he grew to understand the purpose of the work, he left to begin a career in sales and sales management.  While working in organic agriculture in the Central Valley of CA, he met Randy Porubcan.  Both were speakers at a meeting.  Being of similar age, similar backgrounds, college in the upper midwest they hit it off.  That was in 1995.  Randy suggested they start a business one day.  In 2002 Randy called Jeff and asked if he was ready, he said yes and they started their business, Master Supplements.  In September of 2019, they purchased US Enzymes adding a product line of highly efficacious enzyme supplements to their line of probiotics.

It seems that every doctor and health care practitioner has a different opinion on which thyroid tests are important and which ones aren't.

In this episode of the podcast I try to provide some clarity to what tests are needed to evaluate thyroid physiology. In most cases it will come down to 4 key factors:

  • What type of doctor is running your bloodwork
  • What their philosphy is regarding thyroid physiology
  • What they are trying to identify
  • What the goal of testing is

I hope this episode clears up some of the confusion for you!

  • We discuss a different approach to addressing hypothyroidism
  • an more...
