Dr. Eric Balcavage and Dr. Erica Riggleman discuss functional neurology with their colleague Dr. Brady Wirick. Dr. Brady is a Doctor of Chiropractic, Functional Neurologist and Functional Medicine Doctor. The discussion on today’s podcast delves into the connection between functional neurology, thyroid physiology, and the GI tract function.

Dr Brady explains the difference between functional neurologists and conventional neurologists. The biggest difference being the focus of care. Conventional neurologists focus on identifying pathology, and managing symptoms with medications and/or surgery. He gets into detail on the connection between thyroid physiology, brain function, and the nervous system.

Functional neurologists focus on identifying poor nervous system function. This dysfunction is often present long before pathology. Once dysfunction is found, treatment is focused on restoring function, not masking symptoms.

This episode is loaded with information. Dr Brady discusses his B.A.D. B.R.A.I.N analogy. These are signs and symptoms often seen in those who are struggling with neurologic disorders. But, they are also common symptoms seen in people with thyroid dysfunction.
